A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded a former security guard, John Danjuma, for alleged murder of one Boma Amabomu Jumbo, former University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) Director of Administration in Rivers state.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Collins Ali, after receiving remand warrant from Police on the case, remanded the suspect to Port Harcourt Correctional Centre and ordered the case file be handed over to the office of Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advise.
The suspect did not take his plea since there was no charge on him as the Presiding Magistrate adjourned the case to 15th of June 2023 for DPP advise.
Recall that the murder suspect, John Danjuma, said to hail from Nasarawa, in video confession, admitted before the Rivers State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) narrated how he broke into the home of Boma where he had been dismissed as gateman, took her matchet and butchered her in the early hours of last Tuesday.
The suspect had been in detention, facing trial over the suspicion of stealing from the victim the sum of $10,000 US Dollars. Two days to the suspect’s trial, and perhaps to silence his former from giving evidence against him, he broke into her apartment and butchered her with a cutlass pick from her kitchen.
Meanwhile, C. Kema, Counsel to the deceased, Boma Jumbo said they await the DPP advise, since the court has no jurisdiction.
Recall that Mrs Boma Amaomu-Jumbo, was murdered by her former security guard, John Danjuma, from Nasarawa State, on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
According to an account given by a legal practitioner, Mr. Dolapo Tella Attoni, an in-law to the deceased the assailant who has been granted bail on a theft case instituted against him by his former employer, decided to eliminate her in order to prevent her from testifying against him in court on that day.
Attoni alleged that the suspect also killed the lady who recommended him to Mrs. Boma Amaomu-Jumbo for employment.
John Danjuma said that “As soon as he was granted bail in case of stealing the sum of $10,000 US dollars from his boss by the Rivers State Magistrate Court, he began to plot her elimination.”
He gained access to her residence situated at the Old G.R.A Port Harcourt, by scaling the fence and passed through the guest room toilet of the house to strike.”
Armed with a sharp machete, he launched a surprise attack cutting her neck and head severally.
It was alleged that earlier same Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the same suspect killed the lady that recommended him to her (deceased victim) for employment .”
Unfortunately for him, he was caught while trying to escape with items stolen from the residence and the blood of the victim all over his body. Having been caught at the scene, he confessed to committing both murders.”
Another account has it that the murderer had scaled the fence of his victim to carry out the murder. But the security dogs in the compound did not bark at him, having recognized him as the one who had been feeding and taking care of them.
He was said to have spent the night inside the house without the knowledge of the deceased, who he murdered with a machete when she was preparing breakfast in the morning of that fateful day.
It was the new security guard that caught him while he was trying to escape with jewelries and other items he stole from his victim’s room, with blood stains all over his body.
