Andoni Council Chiefs call for probe on death of five people in Finima fishing settlements in Rivers

Consequent upon the death of  Five Andoni people living as tenants in some Fishing Ports in Finima community of Bonny Local Government area of Rivers state, on April 9 and 22 the Andoni Area Council of Traditional Rulers of Rivers state have called for an investigative panel to get to root of the crisis and bring culprits to book.

 

 

Andoni people who are mainly Fishermen are presently settling in three Finima communities of Ajalimoni, Amariari and Light House Fishing Ports  in Bonny local government area of Rivers State are constantly having friction with the Finima people over fishing rights.

 

The Andoni Area Council of Traditional Rulers led by HRM King Dr. A.M Ikuru, Ikwut VII, Okaa-ama of Ikuru Town who briefed a section of Journalists in Port Harcourt said the investigative panel when set up by the state government should probe  the perennial bloody clash between Andoni people and their Finima landlords to stem further violent deaths on both sides.

 

 

The Traditional rulers who condemned the senseless killings of Andoni people said : “The wicked acts of Finima people have led to the desertion of the area by the Andoni people culminating in economic hardship on Andoni people as they have become Internally Displaced Persons” IDPs.

 

On the sidelines of press briefing, Mr Gogo Onyeoma who lost this 22 years old son, Goodnews Gogo Onyeoma alleged that on Sunday April 22, his son was shot dead by people in army uniform right in his presence. The body of his late son has been deposited in the morgue.

It could be recalled that the Spokesman of the Police Nnamdi Omoni, DSP had confirmed the skirmish between the Andoni and Finima people of Bonny on Sunday. He had explained then that both for the arrival of members of Military Joint Task Force, JTF, the crisis would have escalated.
