17 Year Old Girl Commits Suicide By Drinking Rat Poison Over Shame of Unwanted Pregnancy in Rivers

Parents and residents of Awalama Community in Obio-Akpor local government area have been thrown into mourning as a 17 year old secondary school girl whose name was simply given as Miss Abibeto allegedly committed suicide by drinking rat poison on Friday.

 

 

Investigation revealed that the girl who was described by resident as “cool, calm and intelligent girl” was reprimanded and driven from home by her parents for unwanted pregnancy but could not bear the humiliation from parents who rejected her and decided to take her life.

 

 

According to sources, few days before her demise she was withdrawn after crying her hearts out over rejection and later pretended that all was alright.

 

Unknown to her parents she had already given up with life. According to the residents, she had asked for insecticides from traders within her neighbourhood on Friday but could not get to buy.

Unable to get her desired poisonous insecticides she did not give up her suicide mission. She was said to have trickishly collected a rat poison known as “Sniper” from an unsuspecting neighbour pretending that she was going to use it to kill rats but drank it whole. Her lifeless body was discovered on Friday morning.

She did not leave a suicide note but a close look at her lifeless body showed her mouth was smelling of the Sniper rat poison.

 

The Parents of the girl were to traumatised to comment of the irreparable loss.

At the Rumuodamaya Special Area Divisional Police Station where the matter was first reported the Officers there refused comment on the matter.

 

A Police source said the matter is still under investigation.
