Governor Wike closes largest Slaughter Market in Port Harcourt

Daniel Efe/ Port-Harcourt

The Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has closed down Slaughter Market, the largest livestocks Market in Trans-Amadi in Port Harcourt indefinitely.

In a terse Government statement signed by Paulinus Nsirim, the Commissioner for Information and Communications warned that “Government will deal decisively with anybody who dares to flout this directive”.

Slaughter Market in Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt is unarguably, the largest livestock market in the Rivers State capital.

Observers are of the opinion the government may have taken the decision due to the growing concerns for spread of Covid-19 in the state coupled with the refusal of the traders and their costumers to observe Social Distancing in the densely populated Market.

However, the closure of the Slaughter Market will no doubt cause scarcity of beef in the state capital.

Governor Wike had repeatedly warned that his administration will do everything possible to save the lives of Rivers People by checking the spread of Covid-19.
