Rivers State: Anarchy in Diobu, as Gangsters Regroup

By Charles Bermercide

Report reaching us has it that some gangsters, thieves and phone snatchers including pick pockets have regroup themselves to terrorise the community again.

For over the past one year since some local vigilantes group took some level of  measures in the security of Diobu axis in Rivers State, residents of the respected area including the Mile iii axis of the Port Harcourt city local Government Area in Rivers state have been sleeping with their two eyes close.

But since the build up for the election some residents of the area have started witnessing some past ugly lifestyle within some areas of the Diobu community in Rebisi Kingdom of Port Harcourt city Local Government Area.

Some of the areas affected are Elechi, Bishop Okoji, Afam, Mbonu street, Mbekwele Nwusu in the D/Line axis, Ikoku Junction, Gambia, Education, Sangana  Street, Okija streets especially within the bad spot near the Rivers State Post Primary Schools Board (RSPPSB).

Also the Illaobuchi axis connecting the Eagle Island are another hot spot since the state government start its urban renewal programme that has affected some of the areas mentioned from Azikiwe, Ojoto and up to some part of Ilaobuchi where it was announced that some compensation have been given to some owners of property along the areas affected by the government announcement.

Ever since then, some bad groups have been going around looting and demanding from the owners of property to also compensate them since according to them they have learnt the government has paid them.

Although, the Diobu Vigilante group have never relented in their efforts in helping the Nigeria Police track down some of the bad gang.

Just recently, the Diobu vigilante group made some great effort by arresting some phone snatchers along the Ikoku axis of the State. But, investigation and feelers have shown that the group (vigilante) lack the necessary instruments to fight crimes around these areas.
