The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says it has received credible information that Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has mobilized two Local Government Area councils to engage armed thugs to unleash violence on workers during it’s planned protest on Tuesday, 8th September.
The NLC alleged Governor Wike plans to engage the armed thugs under the guise of putting up a counter protest to the one being organized by Labour.
Comrade Ayuba Wabba, NLC National President in statement admonished the governor to commit his time and state resources to attend to the industrial concerns of workers in Rivers State instead of “wasting state resources in the prosecution of a needless war against innocent workers”.
Wabba in the statement said any attempt to disrupt it’s rally on Tuesday would not only be another frontal attack against the Nigerian constitution but an alleged continuation of the governor’s alleged reign of impunity and ploy to exterminate organized labour in Rivers State.
